    In your case those errors probably mean there's a hotlink protection script (or plugin) blocking BLCs attempts to check those images.

    No idea why it doesn't block W3C's checker, though.

    I've found the source of the problem, but I can't presently think of a good way to solve it plugin-side. Try this workaround instead: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/proper-network-activation/

    Perhaps it's not load-related then. Check your server error logs for PHP errors, maybe they will provide some clues.

    You can limit the server load in Settings -> Link Checker -> Advanced. Try setting it to 2.00 or lower.

    I can see how IP-blocking could be a problem for shared hosts, but I don't think that adding a proxy list would be the best way to solve that. It would put an additional burden on the user (finding and checking proxies) and would probably be seen as cruft / misfeature by many.

    Any other ideas for avoiding IP blocks?
