[updated]
Lonnie Amirault said:

This needs to be implemented IMMEDIATELY! As all are aware that keeping up with all the Bells & Whistles on each Authoriative Platform can be nothing short of frustrations & struggling to keep your website alive and well. Broken Checker is a great tool, don't get me wrong, HOWEVER it's as much as KILLER as it as a protector. There's simply too many things that goes wrong on a site, especially Wordpress. The minute a Plugin crashes your blog, or DNS settings go amiss, or your database crashes or your site gets hacked, there's no way in hell or heaven you can keep up with maintenance. Yes sure, sure... the old excuse comes in. well you need to do this or you need to do that. Come on Broken-Checker - if you only focus on this application, i'm sure you can find the time to mend its issues. however myself (pbly everybody) don't have the time to play with backlink losses due to misunderstanding or ignorance of your GREAT plugin. I appreciate it a lot, however I STRONGLY believe that you need to delay the broken links to the public for at leact 6 hours. as we marketers may know of the problem at hand via our sites. I've lost oh... probably now.... 78 backlinks because of brokenlink checker over 1 year span. not a good thing.

If you could be so kind as to please place a memo within your plugin window page - that broken links should be given at LEAST 24 hours to be justifed before we decide to kill the link.

For all you marketers out there that have links on my blog and have had broken links; I made a point to give you all 48 hours to proof it otherwise. I only wish you would do all the same.

No it doesnt hurt search engines ranks. As ive been online since 2001 and it only causes a mild repercussion. Never has my site faultered due to any bad links over a course of 1 year. Most of the time that page is probably not even in top 1000 search result page via Google.

But I can tell you what HURTS more.

Links being removed prematurely HURTS a Hellava lot More! Most of them are archived on the Wayback Machine at web.archive.org, but searching the archive is tedious to do manually.
It would be quite awesome if BLC could link directly to the Wayback results for each broken link. Even better would be a "Preview Wayback Machine and Replace" button, which would show the cached version in a pop-over with "Do it" and "Cancel" buttons. Even more bonus points for adding "newer" and "older" links to the cache pop-over.
Voyagerfan5761tag:whiteshadow.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/101181502011-10-27T13:09:46-07:002011-10-27T13:09:46-07:00Progress bar or indicator
Paul Graydon suggested:
I've got close to 4000 links and climbing, it would be nice to see some kind of progress indicator for any bulk link checks that have been triggered. e.g. we've just "chosen the nuclear option" and its going to take a while to check all the links, would be nice to see how far through it is
Paul Graydontag:whiteshadow.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/100487362011-10-20T03:40:51-07:002011-10-20T03:40:51-07:00Broken link when 404 by Self hosted images [updated]
I've tested it a few times and I think it's not included yet. I use WP 3.0.1 with the Suffusion Theme and when I deleted an image that is included in a page or post it won't show up in the broken list.
This probably is because it redirects to a 404 page not found. But I would really like to see it come up in my broken list. Is this possible?

Bernhard said:

Thank you for this nice plugin!

It would be fine if Broken Link Checker could detect all kind of links which give back a 404.

Excuse me for my bad English.

Bernhardtag:whiteshadow.uservoice.com,2008-02-07:Event/100425052011-10-19T07:19:59-07:002011-10-19T07:19:59-07:00Replace broken links by the follow structure: [updated]
Sometimes, in the process of remove the broken link, it is necessary to keep the information of the old URL for research consistency. The relevance of some pages for researchers of any kind, depends to keep this reference (URL). It`s a way to inform them that, even besides the link is not available anymore, I will know that the exactly URL was available in that page once. For example, look to this sentence:

The astronomer Carl Sagan said once that the probability of us, human beings, being alone in the universe is near "4”.

I`m sugesting that you guys create a button called "Replace broken links by the follow structure:". It will be a kind of a small editor with 2 buttons: "Link URL" and "Text URL" (or even "Title Attribute"). Then I will type what follows and click in this buttons:
<del><%%TextURL%%><del> (The url "<%%LinkURL%%>" used here as example, is no more available).
In my broken link list I will select all links I want and click in the button: "Replace all selected broken links by the structure".
Today I spent hours doing this job using "Broken Link Checker" plugin. With this feature I could do the same in just 1 minute.
